PROJECT S.O.A.R. – Sunsets On Andrews Road

Project SOAR

A sunset photo album by amatuer photographer: David Thrift who is also owner of The Junkyard Blogs & Business Directory and Courtesy Mentions Magazine at

This album consists of photos I took with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (yes an old phone by today’s standards – but top of the line during it’s time) in 2012 of sunsets and traffic along Andrews road, off of exit 66 on I-85, which runs through Opelika, Alabama, in the direction traveling toward Valley, Alabama. My original plans for these photos was to create a ePhotobook full of these pictures to sell on Gumroad, however as we all know, sometimes life leads you down paths to become interested in other things (such as for me, starting my directory business), and so I never got around to creating that ebook (it’s still a thought however for the future). So I have decided that until I’ve made up my mind about making that book, I will share some of the over 3,000 photos I took that year of sunsets at a little quiet spot on the side of the road.

Before making up my mind to put these photos on this site, I had to make considerations as to what value they may add to the site, since this is a business website, and I didn’t want mix too much “business with pleasure”. The truth is, I spent a lot of time out there taking these photos, sometimes sitting for hours, and they have been in storage on my computer, and not getting seen or enjoyed by anyone. It has always been on my mind frequently from time to time that I wasn’t doing anything with these photos after all the time I spent to take them. So I would like to share them for free viewing as a thank you to the viewers who make use of this directory and who enjoys the outdoors and nature as much as I do.

These photos are sorted in albums according to the date they were taken. You will find a link to each album listed below. Each album is considered a chapter as if they would be in the actual ebook should it ever be produced and made for sale by myself, the photographer. At this time, it is not determined how many photos will be shared from the entire collection, however I do plan to share an album for each day I spent out on the highway working on this project. Plans are to add a new album at least twice a month until this project is completed. These are not professional photographs, however I have made some edits to spruce them up to an enjoyable quality.

Map showing the area where Project SOAR photos were taken.

The area marked in the middle of the photo on Andrews Road shows the general location of where the Project SOAR photos were taken. This is located near Opelika, AL Industrial Park off of I-85 which includes Auto-part manufacturing plants such as Mando and Hanwha, plus distribution warehouse centers for Joann and Walmart. Depending on the time of the year, the sunset location could be seen setting across the horizon from the top left to as far right as the auto-parts manufacturer’s location at Mando.
